CHALLENGE MET
The first installation of Cross Laminated Timber in the state of Maine. Required working closely with the city to obtain approval on a new product.
Wessex Woods is a newly constructed community composed of 40 one-bedroom units for households with members 55 and over. This property is close to the ever-growing shopping area on the Portland/Westbrook line as well as two Portland Trails trailheads. Wessex Woods represents an opportunity to create much-needed affordable senior housing in an accessible location within Portland. The development site contains eight contiguous lots located in a highly walkable area in the Nason’s Corner section of the city. Zachau Construction worked with SmartLam to engineer and install Cross Laminated Timber for the elevator shafts within the building. This is the first use of CLT in the state of Maine.
